Project Description

Golden Sunset

Whilst on a photo shoot in Yorkshire I was renting a cottage high in the hills just outside Whitby, I remember that the approach to the cottage was via a very steep trackway, on this particular evening I had returned quite late in the day and as my car crested the hill I was presented with this scene.

It was a matter of minutes to place my tripod and camera in the middle of the track and wait for the Sun to crest the ridgeline, normally I would wait for the Sun to set behind the ridge so as to capture the golden evening sky but in this case I knew that the overspill of light would pick out each edge of the trees and give them a golden glow. In the distance you can just see the smoke rising from a passing steam train and with some judicious dodging and burning I managed to bring out the back lit leaves.
